About Chiropractic

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a holistic, drugless, hands-on approach to neuromusculoskeletal issues of the body. A chiropractor is a health professional who focuses on diagnosis, treatment and prevention of spine disorders. As practitioners of an alternative care discipline, chiropractors focus on enhancing a patient’s health and well-being without drugs or surgery. Treatment typically includes exercise, as well as health and lifestyle counseling.

Why should I choose to go to a Chiropractor?

Chiropractors undergo extensive training to become a doctor of chiropractic; the education time is equivalent to what medical doctors spend. Many patients see chiropractors specifically for back pain but chiropractors are trained to deal with virtually any painful ailment within the body. The main chiropractic technique involves manual therapy to adjust and restore motion to the spine, as well as other joints and soft tissues.

Why should I choose Dr. Mahtaban?

Dr. Mahtaban believes that muscle imbalances must be assessed and treated in order for a person to achieve an optimal state of wellness.  Virtually every type of pain can be attributed to muscular imbalances stemming from weakness, leading to over compensation by other muscles groups. These dysfunctions ultimately  lead to pain.

Since Chiropractic is a holistic approach, Dr. Mahtaban examines each patient to figure out the original source of pain. This is determined through neurological tests, orthopedic tests, functional assessment, range of motion tests, muscle/posture evaluations and, if necessary, advanced imaging studies.

Is Chiropractic Safe?

A chiropractic adjustment is widely recognized as one of the safest, drug-free, non-invasive therapies available for the treatment of headache, and neck and back pain.  Chiropractic adjustments have an excellent safety record.  However, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects. Even common over-the-counter medicines carry a risk.  Most chiropractic patients experience immediate relief following a chiropractic adjustment, however, some may experience temporary pain, stiffness or slight swelling.   Adverse effects associated with chiropractic adjustment are typically minor and short-lived.
